The Magnetic Fields- 69 Love Songs
Bright Eyes- Lifted or the Story is in the Soil, Keep Your Ear to the Ground

What band would play at your ideal wedding?
I’m not sure if I believe in the holy matrimony, but I would have to say, “The Magnetic Fields”.

If you had a kid, what would be the first song you played for it?

“I’m a Little Dinosaur” by Jonathan Richman.

What decade are you most nostalgic for and why?

The 60′s. British Invasion!! Gimme Mods, and Brit Pop. I’m a sucker for shift dresses, Vespas and The Zombies!

What’s your favorite venue?
The “Circle Bar” in New Orleans. It sits on the outer edge of the French Quarter, it’s tiny, tattered and amazing.

What qualities do you possess that would make you an ideal hipster wife?

I’m vegan and I can cook circles around you. I can do track stands with a smile and in a skirt. I’m a kook and will bake you cupcakes, craft you random gifts and make you rad mixed tapes.

What do you look for in a potential hipster husband?

Height, laughter and inspiration. He should be passionate and motivated. Tattoos and cooking abilities, a must! The skinnier the better.

Hi Audrey,

I am complete and utter yuppie scum. I wear baggy jeans, I don’t spend more than five minutes figuring out what I’m going to wear out, I’ve never been to a concert that cost less than $75 per ticket, I pay more than my fair share, and I drink Dogfish Head beer. Yet I find myself strangely attracted to the hipster lifestyle. Do I have any shot at attracting a hipster wife?

Sincerely,

Yuppie Scum

Top 5 Favorite Albums:
Definite all time Top Two:
Houses of the Holy, Led Zeppelin : Once a week since I was fourteen.
Hunky Dory, David Bowie : B/c Bowie is the love of my life.

Alternating favorites selection 3-5

’58 Sessions, Miles Davis : “Stella by Starlight” –solid gold brick.
Midnight Organ Fight, Frightened Rabbit
The Ghost of Fashion, Clem Snide

What band would play at your ideal wedding?
Sly and the Family Stone. Our first dance would be to “(You Caught Me) Smilin’” and everyone could escort us out to “Dance to the Music”. Then we’d drive away in a 1971 Cadillac Eldorado.

If you had a kid, what would be the first song you played for it?
“Happy Birthday” Clem Snide if it’s a boy
“Rejoicing in the Hands” by Devendra Banhart if it’s a girl.

What decade are you most nostalgic for and why?
God, the 90s. I know that’s atrocious but I would have made a killer Seattle grunge rocker. There are days when I wake up and KNOW I should’ve been around to be Eddie Vedder’s wife.

What’s your favorite venue?
Honestly, I always have a really good time at the Hexagon. I like Ottobar (for some shows). the Annex in New York, which is almost exactly like Ottobar. In DC, I suppose it would be the Black Cat.

What qualities do you possess that would make you an ideal hipster wife?
I am a stellar brunch cook and take pretty decent photographs.
I still listen to and collect vinyls, but not on a scary Rob Gordon level.
I read and write latin, and can read and speak spanish and french (with mediocrity).
I’m a cheap date- I like daisies, pho, and old movies. That’s what? $25?
Great explorer of the world and of the thrift store.

What do you look for in a potential hipster husband?
Height.
Intelligence (beyond your basic literacy).
Wide film and music tastes (sometimes I want to watch Fellini, sometimes I want to watch Future Wars on Mystery Science Theater); passionate pursuits– no hipster bums!
Self-awareness and a sense of humor (If you ride a fixed gear, your favorite color is plaid, own more music than everything else you own combined, and drink PBR/Boh when you could afford something better, you need to be able to acknowledge things about yourself and laugh about them).
